Manchester City have announced the signing of Enzo Fernández from Chelsea.
The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the club, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031. A FIFA World Cup and Copa América winner with Argentina, the midfielder arrives with a wealth of experience at both club and international level, having established himself as one of the world’s leading midfielders.
Fernández began his career at boyhood club River Plate where he quickly emerged as one of South America’s brightest young talents. A move to Europe with Benfica followed as he continued his rapid rise before playing a pivotal role in Argentina’s triumphant 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign, also winning the FIFA World Cup Young Player Award. Shortly after his success at the World Cup, Fernández completed a move to Chelsea, where he made 170 appearances, scoring 31 goals and providing 30 assists. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he also added the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League to his honours list.
Fernández becomes City’s eighth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Elliot Anderson, Gerónimo Rulli, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Allan Elias, Iliman Ndiaye, Jeremy Monga and Pierce Charles.
