- Which? has named Aldi the UK’s cheapest supermarket for August – marking ten consecutive months of wins
- Shoppers can save a total of £64.39 by switching from Waitrose to Aldi – the equivalent of a month’s worth of free lunches for two children
New analysis from consumer champion Which? has once again confirmed Aldi as the UK’s cheapest supermarket for August 2026, based on a basket of 92 popular grocery items.
Even after loyalty discounts were applied, shoppers would still have paid up to £30.09 less at Aldi than at Tesco (priced £189.45) and £26.19 less than Sainsbury’s (priced £185.55). Morrisons was £34.75 steeper (priced at £194.11), while Waitrose was a whopping £64.39 more than Aldi for the same basket at £223.75.
The result continues Aldi’s undefeated run in 2026, having topped the Which? rankings every month so far this year – building on its recognition as Cheapest Supermarket of the Year for 2025.
The retailer was also recently named Which?’s ‘Best Value Brand of the Year’, recognised for consistently delivering strong quality at low prices.
Better still, as families prepare for the new school term, Aldi is helping parents make their lunchbox budget go further with its Lunchbox Bundle. Priced at just £4.46, the bundle contains all the ingredients needed to make five complete lunches, including a 6-pack of White Rolls, British Cooked Ham, Cheese Triangles, Chopped Iceberg Lettuce, a 7-pack of Mini Bananas and Little Delights Fromage Frais.
Based on the £64.39 saving made by switching from Waitrose to Aldi, shoppers could cover the cost of 12 Lunchbox Bundles – enough to make 60 packed lunches throughout the month of September.
