The Renault 5 E-Tech electric has won over UK drivers with its looks and fun character, winning the ‘Style & Design’ category in the inaugural Electric Road UK EV Owners Poll Awards.
Launched to reflect the views and experiences of drivers rather than a judging panel, the awards are based on thousands of submissions to Electric Road’s UK EV Owners Poll.
Participants were asked to choose the features they value most about their EV, with more owners selecting styling and design as something they “really like” about their Renault 5 E-Tech electric than any other electric vehicle.

It received the highest percentage of owners who selected ‘Style & Design’ in response to the question, ‘What do you really like about your EV?’

Owners are delighted by how closely the production model resembles the widely praised 2021 concept car, reviving the cheeky, boxy silhouette of the iconic 1970s original.”
One Renault 5 E-Tech electric owner commented: “I love the design references to the original Renault 5. Best looking retro car ever made.”
Its appealing design has even persuaded drivers who had previously ruled out switching to an electric car, with another owner saying: “It looks fantastic. I was an ‘I’ll never go EV’ until I saw the R5 and fell in love with it.”
71% of Renault 5 owners cite design as the reason for choosing it
The result echoes Renault’s own findings in a recent survey of more than 1,600 of its EV owners. There, design was the most frequently cited reason for choosing an electric Renault, selected by 64% of respondents and rising to 71% among Renault 5 E-Tech electric owners.

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric brings an iconic nameplate into the electric era with contemporary packaging and advanced technology designed around real-world needs. Highlights include the OpenR Link infotainment system with Google built-in, a chassis tuned to deliver agility and comfort in equal measure, and practical charging solutions for everyday use. It offers a WLTP driving range of up to 252 miles and can charge from 15–80% in around 30 minutes.
