Bentley’s partnership with FAT International reached new heights yesterday with a day-long takeover of Mankei – FAT International’s base on the famous High Alpine Road of the Grossglockner mountain range in Austria. At 2262m / 7421 ft above sea level, FAT Mankei sits as a perfect rest-stop in the middle of one of the best driving roads in Europe.
Bentley’s takeover of FAT Mankei included display cars, dynamic demonstration cars and a selection of Bentley’s latest models. On the terrace outside, two bookends of the expression of Bentley – the 2003 Le Mans-winning Speed 8, and the Bentayga X Concept – were resplendent in the spring sunshine. The unique Bentayga X Concept was developed earlier this year to stimulate and gain feedback for an enhanced off-road capable Bentayga, which could be a possible Bentley model in the future.
For the first time, all three of Bentley’s Pikes Peak challengers were brought together to celebrate outstanding Bentley performance in the rarified atmosphere of the mountains. The 1,000 bhp 2021 Pikes Peak Continental GT3 – kindly loaned by its owner – took pride of place next to the Speed 8, showcasing two extremes of Bentley performance. It was joined by the Pikes Peak Bentayga, which set the Production SUV record in 2018, and the Pikes Peak Continental GT which broke the outright Production Class record the following year.
Both road-going Pikes Peak cars were utilised throughout the day, giving passenger rides to Bentley guests and passing enthusiasts through the sweeping bends and tight switchbacks of the High Alpine Road.
Meanwhile, guests and passers-by were welcomed with freshly prepared espresso from the back of the Joe & The Juice Bentayga – a vibrant pink coffee-machine-on-wheels that celebrates Bentley’s partnership with the popular coffee brand – and delicious food from the Mankei café.
The FAT Mankei x Bentley event is the third joint event between FAT International and Bentley this year, following two ice races in Zell am See and Montana, and will be followed by more activations in 2027.
