Set to open in late summer 2026, the Model Market will become a long-term, vibrant, all-day hub for traders, local creatives, and the wider community, which transitions seamlessly from morning coffee and coworking to micro-dining, creative retail and evening programming. With construction underway, the space is being reimagined with nods to its original 1950s market heritage, preserving its distinctive architecture and time-worn charm while introducing a fresh visual identity.
As operators, German Kraft will bring its signature craft beer and famously social, community-led taproom atmosphere to the reimagined space. It will curate the street food traders, which will be announced in due course, and oversee all other programming.
Originally founded in 2017 at Mercato Metropolitano in Elephant and Castle, German Kraft has built a strong reputation for combining fresh, high-quality beer with lively hospitality experiences. The Lewisham opening continues in that mould by adding another London site to German Kraft’s position as a creator of exciting community destinations and one of the city’s most loved beer brands.

The new Model Market at Lewisham Shopping Centre will support job creation, attract small-scale, big-hearted traders, and elevate the guest experience with a vibrant space for trading, dining and socialising. Serving more than just food, Model Market will become an all-day social hub, designed to bring people together. Alongside its diverse culinary offerings, it will feature live DJ sets, diverse music, pop-ups, events, and cultural programming that celebrate the intersection of food, art, and community.
The arrival of Model Market marks an important milestone for Lewisham Shopping Centre, reinforcing its role as a community hub and supporting the continued regeneration of the town centre.
