A new world of creepy, twisted, crazy golf is coming to Oxford this summer, as Ted’s Crazy Golf prepares to open at Westgate Oxford Shopping Centre on 13th August 2026, bringing strange monsters, talking gargoyles, retro cocktails and a twisted 1980s diner to the heart of the city.
Opening in the space previously occupied by Junkyard Golf Club, the new venue has been reimagined by Larissa Houghton and Christopher Legh, the founders of experience-led hospitality company Anger Mgmt Venues, as a strange, spectacular and theatrical crazy golf experience unlike anything else in the city.
Designed as a cool experience with something for everyone, the venue is perfect for date nights, work socials, nights out, family days out and groups of friends. Ted’s Crazy Golf will combine two 9-hole courses, large-scale installations, animatronics, original characters and surreal artwork, alongside a creative food and drinks offer designed to match the energy of the venue.
But this is not crazy golf as you know it… Inspired by late-1980s and early-1990s Americana, cult movies, comedy horror and nostalgic pop culture, Ted’s Crazy Golf has been created as an entirely original world where fantasy, freaks and strange surprises wait around every corner.
The story began with Ted Montgomery, a larger-than-life Californian who, back in the late 1980s, ran one of the West Coast’s most unusual crazy golf courses by day and collected comedy-horror memorabilia by night. His garage was packed floor to ceiling with vintage monster masks, animatronics, movie posters, creepy toys, haunted carnival props and oddities picked up from film studios and estate sales. Ted believed crazy golf should be more than windmills and castles. He believed every course should tell a story, and maybe even a creepy one.
Now, decades later, with Ted’s blessing, his world is being brought back to life in Oxford. Guests will be invited to step through the doors and into a strange new dimension, somewhere between the mystery of Goosebumps, the imagination of The NeverEnding Story and the weirdness of Beetlejuice.
Every creature, every hole and every piece of art has been imagined by the monsters in the minds of Larissa and Christopher, before being brought to life by an extraordinary team of artists, designers, sculptors and fabricators.
Larissa Houghton, co-founder of Ted’s Crazy Golf, said: “We are so excited to bring Ted’s Crazy Golf to Oxford and let people step inside the world we have created. This is a place that has come completely from our imagination. We wanted to build somewhere that feels fun, weird, nostalgic and full of surprises, where people walk in and feel like they have stepped through a portal into another dimension.”

The first course, Bad Bones, will take guests on a trip to the ‘other side’ through a gothic graveyard filled with trash-talking gargoyles, skeletons, serpents, zombie hands and creatures that lurk in the shadows.
The second course, Fun House, will lead guests into a carnival gone wrong. Designed as a twisted fairground world, the 9-hole course will feature a trippy carousel, a caged lion, a warped hall of mirrors and the kind of strange fairground atmosphere that feels like it has been pulled from a freaky dream.
The main bar has been transformed into a twisted take on a 1980s diner, complete with retro cocktails including the American Scream, Peek-A-Boo and Cherry Cherry Cola, alongside milkshakes, ice-cream floats, frozen slushies, wine, beers, non-alcoholic drinks, pizzas, hot dogs and popcorn.
