Brockley Max is inviting artists to play a central role in its 25th anniversary celebrations with an exciting opportunity to design a large-scale public mural in the heart of Lewisham.
As part of this milestone year, Brockley Max is being sponsored by Lewisham Shopping Centre for the nine-day community arts festival, and will be delivering a series of legacy projects that celebrate the borough’s vibrant cultural identity. At the forefront of this initiative is a new, high-profile mural commission on Molesworth Street – and submissions are now open.
Local artists are encouraged to submit bold, original designs that reflect Lewisham’s unique character, rich musical heritage, and diverse food culture. The selected artwork will be displayed on the façade of Lewisham Shopping Centre, offering unparalleled visibility to thousands of visitors each day.
The call-out reflects the long-standing commitment of both Lewisham Shopping Centre and Brockley Max to championing public art and community engagement. Submissions should reflect the spirit of Lewisham – from its diverse global communities to its thriving cultural landscape. The deadline for entries is Tuesday 28 April.
This year’s programme of supported initiatives from Lewisham Shopping Centre also includes a radio campaign with 1HarmonyRadio with an associated radio mentorship scheme, plus a specially commissioned self-guided mural map showcasing artworks from the past 25 years across Brockley, Ladywell, Crofton Park, Honor Oak and Lewisham.
Festival Director, Rosie Hattersley said: “Brockley Max is delighted to announce that it will once again be supported by Lewisham Shopping Centre. Support from the centre will help towards the costs of delivering this year’s festival, while also funding initiatives that will celebrate Brockley Max festival’s long-standing contribution to Lewisham’s arts scene.
“Celebrating 25 years of Brockley Max is a huge moment for us, and we’re thrilled to mark it by creating new opportunities for artists to leave a lasting legacy in Lewisham. This mural commission is a chance to capture the energy, creativity and community spirit that define the borough.”
Paul Redden, Centre Director at Lewisham Shopping Centre, said: “Brockley Max is a fantastic celebration of local creativity, and we’re delighted to be sponsoring the festival this year. Supporting the local community and creating opportunities for artists and performers to thrive is central to what we do. Our long-standing presence in Lewisham is reflected in our plans to redevelop the centre, including new public spaces and a dedicated music venue with performance, rehearsal and production facilities that will further strengthen the area’s cultural offer.”
The deadline for mural submissions is midnight on Tuesday 28 April. The selected artist will be announced on Tuesday 5 May, with work on the artwork to begin by Monday 18 May 2026.
