Guillermo del Toro Partners with The Connor Brothers for BFI National Archive Art Release

Visionary, Academy-Award®-winning film director Guillermo del Toro is launching four exclusive artwork editions, in a collaboration with The Connor Brothers, with all profits from the sales being donated to supporting the essential work of the BFI National Archive.

Each of the four limited-edition artworks are hand signed by Guillermo del Toro and are based on photographs taken from del Toro’s Academy Award®-winning films; Frankenstein, which was released on Netflix last year and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio released by Netflix in 2022.

The BFI National Archive cares for one of the largest and most important collections of film, television and moving image in the world. Its expert teams ensure that the UK’s national collection is preserved and developed for future generations and made widely accessible to today’s audiences. Guillermo del Toro was recently honoured with a BFI Fellowship, the British Film Institute’s highest accolade, in recognition of the Academy Award®-winning director’s extraordinary contribution to film, television and video games and the distinctive artistry that defines his work across both animation and live action.

The limited-edition prints will be available to purchase on the Sunday Is Boring website; a platform created by British artists The Connor Brothers, Cathryn Wright and Tiffany Newton that launched last year with an artwork release by Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher.

Guillermo del Toro said, “Film is sustained by images that have the power to enthral and spark creativity. The BFI restores, preserves and presents film as an art form, as important as any other work of art. As a cultural institution the BFI means so much to me, it has encouraged me throughout my career and continues to inspire me. I am delighted to work with The Connor Brothers on this set of limited-edition prints, released in honour of my BFI Fellowship, to raise funds and help support the BFI’s essential work for film culture, not just for Britain, but for the world.”

Arike Oke, BFI Executive Director of Knowledge, Learning & Collections said, “It is such an honour that Guillermo del Toro, The Connor Brothers and Sunday Is Boring have come together to create these limited-edition prints in support of the work of the BFI National Archive. We are proud to be custodians of the UK’s national collection of film, TV and moving image, which is one of the most culturally significant, and most complete film archives in the world. Guillermo del Toro visited our Conservation Centre recently to see firsthand the deep expertise and world class care the archive teams give to the national collection. The proceeds of these prints will be vital to supporting our mission, and our ambition for the BFI National Archive to become the most open moving image collection in the world.”

Tiffany Newton at Sunday Is Boring said, “Sunday Is Boring aims to make art more accessible and collaborates with creatives outside the conventional art world, whether they are rock stars, athletes or entertainers. It is an honour to be able to collaborate with Guillermo del Toro to support the essential work of the BFI National Archive.”

All four artworks, each in an edition of 50 and hand signed by Guillermo del Toro, will go on sale for £295 + VAT on the 15 July at 17:00 BST on www.sundayisboring.com
