Firetree launches three new single-estate Tanzanian dark chocolate bars for Chocolate Week (16–22 October 2026)
Chocolate lovers can discover a little taste of ‘heaven’ this autumn, as premium British chocolate brand Firetree launches three new single-estate Tanzanian dark chocolate bars.
The new collection is made with cocoa grown around the remote village of Mbingu – meaning ‘heaven’ in Swahili – in Tanzania’s Kilombero Valley, some 60 kilometres from the nearest tarred road or electricity.
Launching in October, the trio includes a rich 90% cocoa bar, a fruity 72% dark chocolate and a 74% bar with crunchy, slow-roasted cocoa nibs.
Like wine, cocoa develops different flavours depending on where it is grown. Firetree specialises in cocoa from volcanic regions, creating chocolate that showcases the distinctive flavours of its origin.
The three new bars are:
- Tanzania, Kilombero Valley 72% Cocoa Dark Chocolate – £4.25
Bold and lively, with notes of red fruit, lemon and pineapple.
- Tanzania, Kilombero Valley 90% Cocoa Dark Chocolate – £4.25
Rich and intense, with molasses and cocoa notes followed by date and cinder coffee.
- Tanzania Cocoa Nibs 74% Dark Chocolate with Slow-Roasted Cocoa Nibs – £4.50
Bold, fruity dark chocolate with the added crunch of slow-roasted cocoa nibs.
Sheena Horton, Firetree Chocolate’s resident taste expert, says: “Just as wine lovers explore the flavours of different regions, we want chocolate lovers to discover how dramatically cocoa can vary depending on where it’s grown. Kilombero Valley cocoa has an incredibly distinctive flavour. These bars let it shine, showing just how complex and exciting great chocolate can be.”
The cocoa comes from Koko Kamili, an agri-centre working with farmers in Tanzania’s Kilombero Valley. It buys freshly harvested cocoa directly from growers and pays above-market prices, meaning farmers are paid more, more quickly. What’s more, the farmers in Kilombero have been practicing organic farming by default for generations – the lack of availability of inorganic inputs for cocoa has meant that the cocoa trees have been grown without any pesticides, inorganic fertilisers, or other chemicals.
Adds Sheena: “Exceptional chocolate starts with exceptional cocoa. We’ve had this cocoa on our radar for some time, and we’re delighted to bring it to chocolate lovers and taste explorers this Chocolate Week.”
The three new Firetree Tanzania bars will be available from early October 2026, priced from £4.25, from the Firetree website: www.firetreechocolate.co.uk.
