Extra MSA Ranked Europe’s No. 1 Transport Infrastructure Operator in Latest GRESB Benchmark

Service station operator Extra MSA Group has achieved a 4-star rating in the 2026 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) Infrastructure Assessment, scoring 98.1% and ranking first within its category of Transport: Other Transport in Private (non-listed) organisations.

GRESB is a leading global sustainability benchmark for real assets, providing investors, fund managers and infrastructure operators with independent insight into environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.

Extra MSA first participated in the GRESB Infrastructure Assessment in 2024, which provided a clear benchmark of where it could strengthen its sustainability management, risk oversight and performance reporting.

Since then, the company has taken a series of steps to improve its sustainability reporting and demonstrate year-on-year performance improvement. These have included launching its ESG strategy in 2024, expanding its nationwide EV facilities for both road and HGV users through partnerships with GRIDSERVE and IONITY, and becoming the first motorway service operator to have its carbon targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Net-Zero Standards.

Other recent sustainability initiatives include Extra MSA’s partnership with Spirit Energy to install 810 solar PV panels at its Cobham site and 840 at Beaconsfield, and its collaboration with Reconomy Connect to innovate its waste disposal system, enabling its average recycling rate to grow from 18% to 57%.

The 2026 GRESB result recognises Extra MSA’s commitment to improve ESG data quality, risk management processes and transparency for stakeholders and investors.

Michael Grantham, ESG Manager at Extra MSA Group, said: “We’re really proud of achieving a 4-star GRESB rating and being recognised as Europe’s No. 1 Transport Infrastructure Operator. This is a testament to the progress we’ve made in embedding sustainability throughout the business since our first assessment in 2024.”

“Thanks to internal and external collaboration with colleagues, on-site staff, and stakeholders, we’ve strengthened our partnerships, improved our reporting and developed a clearer understanding of how to make the most of sustainability-related opportunities. We’re committed to continue going the Extra mile for our customers and leading the way in creating a more sustainable transport sector.”
