Ascot Pupil’s ‘Happy Place’ to Be Shared at New Community

A 10-year old Sunninghill student has won the chance to see her creative design on display for visitors to admire at a new home development in Ascot.

Taylor Wimpey West London challenged pupils at St Michael’s CofE Primary School to create a piece of art inspired by the theme of ‘My Happy Place’, encouraging children to bring the places and things that make them happiest to life.

The competition followed a £1,000 donation to the school’s ongoing campaign to refurbish its toilets. The Taylor Wimpey team wanted to reflect their support at the nearby Heatherwood Royal community, and decided that the perfect way to highlight their work with the school would be to show off the winning entry as a framed piece of art in one of the show home toilets.

Pupils rose to the challenge and after a difficult judging process, 10-year-old Lily Chamberlain’s vibrant entry, featuring a bright pink flamingo and rainbow, was chosen as the winner. Lily recently visited Heatherwood Royal to meet the team, receive her prize voucher and see her design proudly on display.

Lily said: “It is so amazing to see my winning design in real life, framed for everyone visiting the show home to see. I really enjoyed taking part in the design competition, and I am so happy to have won.

“I decided to incorporate all four of my favourite things as I couldn’t decide between them. The first was the beach because it’s relaxing and I love the sound of the waves. The second was a flamingo as they were my first favourite animal, and their pink feathers are so pretty. The third was my swimming pool because it’s great to splash around in with my friends and brother. The final picture is of my pony Obi, I love him so much, he is my best friend.”

Matt Thompson, Headteacher of St Michael’s CE Primary School, said: “We were delighted to be a part of the design competition, every child in the school had the opportunity to take part and we loved the theme of ‘your happy place’. Our children are very keen and talented artists, and it was a lovely opportunity to see hard work pay off in having the winner displayed for people to see.”

Sarah Pasco, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey West London, said: “We were really keen to find a fun way to highlight our support for the school’s toilet refurbishment project, and the design competition did just that. It was such a pleasure for our team to meet Lily and reveal her winning artwork in our show home. We were really impressed by her vibrant design so it was lovely to see her reaction in person.

“One of our key priorities is investing in the next generation and this competition enabled us to connect with local young people in a tangible way. It is so important to highlight the benefits of creativity in schools, particularly in a time where these subjects are increasingly undervalued. We hope Lily continues to be passionate about art, and continues to be imaginative in her future.”
