As Mayfair was establishing itself as the centre of 19th century London high society, the modern croissant was being perfected across the Channel. This October, the world’s most decorated Michelin-starred chef, Yannick Alléno, brings these two traditions together at Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane with the croissant taking pride of place in a new afternoon tea.
Building on La Croissanterie, the hotel’s first-of-its-kind concept dedicated entirely to the croissant, La Croissanterie Afternoon Tea launches on 9th October in the hotel’s elegant Lounge at Pavyllon London. The experience combines Chef Alléno’s visionary approach to reimagining classic dishes with the precision of French pâtisserie and the generosity of afternoon tea. Expect delicate layers, indulgent fillings and seasonal British produce, enjoyed over fine tea or a glass of Champagne.
The savoury selection puts a French spin on classic afternoon tea with a mini lobster croissant filled with lobster, egg and homemade mayonnaise paired with sandwiches of truffle, Comté & turkey ham, and coronation chicken with mango pickle and coriander, and cucumber and cream cheese with caper and dill.
The sweet selection centres on the signature croissant with vanilla mascarpone, croissant praline and chocolate namelaka, accompanied by a fig & raspberry tart, honey cheesecake and pear and tonka financier. Completing the afternoon tea are Pavyllon’s “So British” scones, served with strawberry jam and orange marmalade.
More than 20 single-garden teas, sourced exclusively from JING, including Earl Grey, Cherrywood Lapsang, Darjeeling, Yunnan White Peony and Organic Ceremonial Matcha sit alongside iced drinks, herbal infusions and a selection of bubbles by the glass.
Available every Friday to Sunday from 2:30pm to 4:30pm, priced at £95 per person, with bottomless tea and coffee included, La Croissanterie Afternoon Tea brings a touch of Mayfair glamour and French savoir-faire to the end of the week.
