The government has today announced that it will provide funding to help Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust plan improvements to its ageing buildings.
The £1million funding will be used to develop a business case to replace the tower block at Southend Hospital, which provides inpatient care for a number of clinical services including cancer and outpatients, as well as neonatal and maternity care. The funding will also be used to review older buildings across the Trust and make the case for further capital funding.
Adam Sewell-Jones, Group Chief Executive of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We welcome this funding which will help us plan for the future and tackle some of the challenges of our ageing buildings. It is an important step towards making sure our hospitals are fit to provide modern healthcare for local people.
“It will help us prepare the business cases needed to secure future investment.”
