Blue Badge Backing: Disabled People to Benefit From Easier Parking on Trips to Italy

Disabled Brits holidaying in Italy can now use their Blue Badge abroad and travel with greater confidence. The move will remove uncertainty for disabled people travelling overseas, whether for a holiday, to visit family, or for work. Nobody wants unnecessary stress on their holiday, and this change makes it easier to get around thanks to access to reserved parking, helping disabled people park closer to their destination.

It builds on a similar arrangement agreed with France, where Brits have been using their permits since August last year. Work is ongoing with Spain to explore similar arrangements for Blue Badge holders. This is all part of the Government’s commitment to make travel more accessible and help disabled people travel independently.

Italian visitors travelling to the UK will also benefit, with Italy’s disabled parking permits to be recognised here.

Roads Minister Justin Madders said:

“Disabled people shouldn’t have to worry about whether their parking permit will be recognised when travelling abroad.

“These new arrangements with Italy mean Blue Badge holders can relax and enjoy their trip, with easier access to reserved parking and exemptions from charges, whether they’re travelling for a holiday, visiting family or for work.”
