Hull City’s unbeaten home record in the Premier League remains intact after a 1-1 draw on Sunday against Brentford.
The Tigers reside in the top half of the table after a fine start following promotion but their winless run has now stretched to six games in the league, with draws a particular theme of their season so far.
They took the lead midway through the first half here, from the penalty spot after Aaron Hickey fouled Tim Iroegbunam following Brentford’s poor attempts at playing out from the back.
Oli McBurnie stepped up and stroked the ball home into the bottom-right corner for his first goal of the campaign.
Brentford had a good chance to draw level came not long after when Kevin Schade produced a close-range effort that was blocked by his own teammate, Igor Thiago amid a crowded penalty area.
Keith Andrews’ men were much the busier and they got a deserved equaliser just after the hour mark. Dango Ouattara was on hand to bundle in from close range after Hull failed to deal with a dangerous cross into the box.
Neither side could really lay claim to deserving a winner, although Hull’s Mohamed-Ali Cho drew a good save from Caoimhin Kelleher before the contest petered out to a draw.
City boss Sergej Jakirovic said: “I think that we played a good game, especially the first half. We were much more aggressive in duels, and we won a lot of first and second balls.
“We didn’t allow anything, maybe after some cheap mistakes, bad passing, bad receiving, so you can see how fast they are. They are inside our box after only five seconds of the game. Maybe we should score at least one more with better decisions but in the end, I think it’s a fair result.”
Andrews, whose side are sixth in the standings, reflected: “It was a tough game and it was always going to be a tough game. I’ve got a lot of respect for Sergej and the journey he’s taken this team on – I think it’s been remarkable.
“We reacted well at half-time, the impact from the bench was pretty good but it was a tough game. We lacked a bit of cohesion at times in how we played, we’ve got very good players and good players on the bench and I think it’s important that when they come on they realise that they have to impact the game.
“It’s nice today that they had that impact.”
