Berkshire Charities Receive Vital Support To Tackle Holiday Hunger Crisis

Two Berkshire-based food share charities have received support from one of the UK’s leading housebuilders to help families during the school holidays, when many households face increased financial pressure.

Families who rely on free school meals during term time can often struggle during the summer when schools are closed. Across Berkshire, a number of charities are working hard to combat this issue.

SHARE Wokingham provides food to people struggling to make ends meet. Supported by a team of 2,000 volunteers, the charity supplies fresh fruit and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste. Any stock unsuitable for human consumption goes to a local farm for animal feed. The charity saves 40 tonnes of food wastage a month on average.

Foodshare Maidenhead provides emergency support to people in need, helping ensure no one in the community goes hungry. The foodbank has been at the heart of Maidenhead for over 15 years, currently supported by a team of over 150 volunteers. In 2025, Foodshare Maidenhead secured a permanent home on Reform Road, opening a community café to create a vibrant, welcoming hub for anyone in the community to visit.

Taylor Wimpey West London chose to support the two charities as part of a national initiative to fight the holiday hunger crisis, ensuring people can access essential food during summer. The housebuilder made a £350 donation to SHARE Wokingham, whilst staff at its Harvest Hill development collected food to give to Foodshare Maidenhead.

Claire Revie, Volunteer for SHARE Wokingham, said: “Thank you to Taylor Wimpey West London for their generous donation. School holidays can be a particularly challenging time for many families, as children who normally rely on free school meals are at home. Donations like this help us to provide essential support to the people who need it the most.”

Debbie Gee, Foodshare Trustee for Foodshare Maidenhead, said: “We’re beyond grateful to Taylor Wimpey West London for their recent support. School holidays can be a really tough time for families across the UK, so support like this can make a huge difference for people struggling to make ends meet.”

Sarah Pasco, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey West London, said: “We’re honoured to be supporting two fundamental organisations within Berkshire which provide a vital lifeline for individuals and families facing tough times.

“We know school holidays can massively increase financial pressure on families, particularly those who depend on free school meals during term time. Our national campaign is focused on helping to fight holiday hunger by supporting local organisations, which ensures we are making a tangible difference within the communities we are building in.”

Taylor Wimpey West London has a range of communities within the Berkshire area, including Arborfield Heights, Harvest Hill and Willow Green.
