BMW iX1 and BMW iX2 customers can now benefit from the full £3,750 electric car grant on qualifying models1 as BMW becomes the first premium German marque eligible for the government-backed scheme.
The eligibility of both compact all-electric models marks an important step in broadening access to BMW’s all-electric product portfolio, with selected variants now available for less than comparable internal combustion powered BMW X1 and BMW X2 models. For instance, including the grant, the BMW iX1 eDrive20 Sport is priced from £33,315 OTR, while a comparable BMW X1 sDrive20i Sport is priced from £37,540 OTR.
In addition, the BMW iX2 model range expands with the introduction of an extra qualifying model, the new BMW iX2 eDrive20 Sport. This new derivative features, 17-inch alloy wheels, High-gloss Shadowline exterior detailing and front Sport seats, and will be sold alongside existing M Sport models.

Qualification for the higher Band 1 grant for BMW iX1 and iX2 models reflects BMW Group’s holistic approach to sustainability. The successful application demonstrates that BMW Group’s production processes meet the UK Government’s environmental criteria, supported by the company’s commitment to Science Based Targets initiative.
A key element of the application process is evidencing renewable electricity procurement. For example, at BMW Group Plant Regensburg, where over 1,400 BMW X1 and X2 model derivatives are produced each day, a portion of its electricity needs is obtained from over 25,000 square metres of photovoltaic modules installed on the plant’s roof. The system’s annual renewable electricity output is estimated at 2.9 GWh, corresponding to the annual electricity needs of over 1,000 single-family homes2.
