Liverpool Sibling Punk Trio Yee Loi Release New Single ‘Down In The Bunker’

Sibling punk sensations Yee Loi (Rose, Matilda, and Don Don) today release ‘Down In The Bunker’, a slice of original gothic-horror set to an irresistible punk tune.

Born out of a real-life family holiday to Italy, the track tells a vivid, dark pop story involving an existential goth (played by their younger sister), a small-town bully and a dead uncle hidden away in a dark, subterranean basement.

Matilda said: “We were in Italy for our mum’s birthday, staying in this apartment that just smelled absolutely terrible. We started joking that there was a dead body hidden away in the basement walls…and that gradually became ‘Down In The Bunker’.”

‘Yee Loi’ is the Cantonese for “two girls”, and while Matilda comes up with the lyrics and Rose writes the riffs, the songs really are a collaborative effort at their family home in Liverpool.

Rose said: “We are completely separated by a bedroom wall at home. If Matilda gets an idea for the lyrics or I get an idea for a riff or a melody, we just shout ‘Come on, then!’ through the plaster and start writing. Half the time it’s midnight and someone is knocking on the ceiling telling us to stop, but that’s exactly how our songs come together”.

A music video for ‘Down In The Bunker’ has a DIY punk aesthetic with the band’s heads planted on doll bodies, with only their facial expressions left to react to the song. They have also employed their younger sister in the music video to act as a little goth, with the band describing the operation as a “sibling show”.

A late-2025 tour supporting post-punk icon Adam Ant, with York Calling saying it was the “sharpest opening set of the month”, adding: “They leave the stage like they’ve robbed a bank and legged it.” They will be back on the road in October with Transvision Vamp.
