DJ, producer and one third of the legendary Dreem Team, DJ Spoony, has officially announced that he’s rebranding for a limited period as…. DJ TeaSpoony. The unexpected announcement comes as he celebrates the launch of his Summer breakfast club with a favourite breakfast headliner, Nutella. DJ TeaSpoony, real name Johnathon Joseph, has partnered with the iconic brand to show the UK how they can give their breakfast the VIP treatment with just one heaped teaspoon of Nutella.
To accompany six of Nutella’s best summer breakfast recipes, DJ TeaSpoony has compiled the ultimate breakfast playlist, a ready-made soundtrack designed to bring the energy and transform mornings into feel-good family moments.
The partnership comes off the back of research from Nutella that has revealed 68% of Brits are self-professed “morning people”.
Signs you’re one of the 68%, include opening the windows for a bit of ‘fresh air’ (55%), always making your bed (48%), marvelling at the sound of bird song (43%) and flinging back the curtains the moment you wake up (30%).
Night owls on the other hand want an hour of peace as soon as they wake up (60%) so much so that 50% say they NEED at least an hour of quiet first thing in the morning. A potential issue for the 52% of non-morning people who say they are married to a morning person.
And it’s not just partners who might be moaning about being woken up too early, 34% of respondents say their kids have grumbled about them being up and about too early in the school holidays.
Two thirds (62%) of parents say it can be a challenge to maintain a morning routine over the summer break, and have revealed their favourite techniques to get their kids out of bed for breakfast. One in three (31%) have shouted into their room that ‘breakfast is ready’, while 27% have flung back the curtains and exclaimed that ‘it is a beautiful day’. For a sixth (13%) only a musical alarm will do, admitting to blasting loud music to rouse their sleeping heads.
Either way, music plays a big role in a happy morning for both those who profess to be morning people and those who don’t, with 87% saying that it makes them and their family feel more energised. 58% say they have played some beats to encourage a feel-good environment.
58% agree that certain types of music puts them in a good mood and makes them feel more awake (53%) with pop (53%), RnB (21%), club classics (18%) and indie (13%) the go-to genres.
The morning lovers have other tricks to start their day too; 31% make a fresh pot of coffee every morning, 29% reply to messages before 7.30am, 20% sing in the shower, 19% prepare breakfast for the whole family, 14% go for a run before sitting down to brekkie and 12% even boogie while making their morning drink.
In fact, they say the extra time makes them feel happier (54%), sharper (49%) and more prepared for the day (64%). One in four (25%) also love the fact that they are able to prepare a delicious breakfast to kick start the day.
Commenting on the Nutella Breakfast Club, DJ TeaSpoony said; “Summer mornings are all about slowing down and making the most of that precious time over breakfast. In our house, music has always played a massive part in our morning routine. Taking some time to try some tasty new recipes, together with some great tunes to set the vibe, it’s the perfect way to start the day.”
Mathieu Maggi, Marketing Director Nutella UK&I, Ferrero added; ‘We’re delighted to be partnering with DJ TeaSpoony. He’s synonymous with feel-good music and bringing people together, making him the perfect choice to front our Summer breakfast club. Whether it’s trying delicious recipes or curating the ultimate breakfast playlist, it’s all about helping people start their day with a smile, positivity, and of course, one heaped teaspoon of Nutella’
And when it comes to the songs that can lift our morning mood, Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen (27%) tops the list, followed by ABBA’s classic, Dancing Queen (25%) and Katrina and The Waves, Walking on Sunshine (22%).
Other songs that elevate our mood include Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles (22%), I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston (22%) and Mr Brightside by The Killers (21%).
One of DJ TeaSpoony’s favourites from his Breakfast Club Playlist, Fleetwood Mac ‘Everywhere’ also made the cut coming in at no. 10 on the nation’s top morning tunes.
