Charitable social enterprise GLL runs more than 100 ‘Better’ leisure centres and gyms across Greater London. Between them, they offer a wide range of activities to keep kids and their parents happy and healthy over the summer months.
Here’s a selection of what’s on offer for families in all corners of the metropolis –
Super Swimming
Many Better venues include swimming pools or lidos – naturally, that brings a range of aquatic activities such as ‘Swim for All’, family swims, lessons for beginners and improvers, and Aquasplash sessions with inflatables.
Messing About in Boats in Hackney
West Reservoir in Hackney is a surprising oasis of calm in London’s East End. Over the summer holidays, the venue is offering a selection of children’s sailing courses for beginners as well as improvers. Prices start at £129. There are also courses for adults. SEND Athletics in Lewisham
The Alex Yee Ladywell Arena in Lewisham will be hosting free disability-friendly activities over the summer for young people aged 5 – 25 with SEND.

Football Camps in Bellingham
Millwall FC will be hosting football ‘camps’ over the summer at Bellingham Leisure Centre in Lewisham. The sessions are open to boys and girls aged 5 – 14. All abilities are welcome. There are three weekly sessions – 27 – 31 July, 10 – 14 August, 24 – 28 August – all operating between 10 and 3pm. The cost is £14 per day or £50 for the whole week. Trampolining in Sutton
Sutton Sports Village’s recently-revamped trampoline park offers a range of different ways to bounce for children and adults (youngsters under 8 need to be accompanied by an adult). Choose from general, toddler, super saver, and SEN sessions or move to the music at a disco session. The park is open from 10am – 6pm. Prices range from £5.20 to £14.50, with trampoline socks at £2.90 a pair. Junior Gym in Richmond
Children between the ages of 11 and 17 can work out in the gym at Pools on the Park in Richmond with dedicated time slots and there is always an instructor on-hand. Young people will need a basic induction before using the gym and sessions must be booked in advance. Prices are between £3.90 and £6.50.
